Series Preface

Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion
Clean energy technologies, which include energy storage and conversion,
will play the most important role in overcoming fossil fuel exhaustion and
global pollution for the sustainable development of human society. Among
clean energy technologies, electrochemical energy storage and conversion
are considered the most feasible, environmentally friendly, and sustainable.
Electrochemical energy technologies such as batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, hydrogen generation and storage as well as solar energy conversion
have been or will be used in important application areas including transportation and stationary and portable/micro power. To meet the increasing
demand in both the energy and power densities of these electrochemical
energy devices in various new application areas, further research and development are essential to overcome major obstacles such as cost and durability,
which are considered to be hindering their applications and commercialization. To facilitate this new exploration, we believe that a book series that covers and gives an overall picture of all the important areas of electrochemical
energy storage and conversion technologies is highly desired.
This book series will provide a comprehensive description of electrochemical energy conversion and storage in terms of fundamentals, technologies,
applications, and the latest developments including secondary (or rechargeable) batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, CO 2 electroreduction to produce
low-carbon fuels, electrolysis for hydrogen generation/storage, and photoelectrochemical for water splitting to produce hydrogen. Each book in this
series will be self-contained and written by scientists and engineers with
excellent academic records and strong industrial expertise, who are at the
top of their fields on the cutting-edge of technology. With a broader view of
various electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices, this book
series will be unique and an essential read for university students including
undergraduates and graduates, scientists and engineers working in related
fields. We believe that reading this book series will enable readers to easily
locate the latest information concerning electrochemical technology, fundamentals, and applications.
