About the Editor
Carsten Hobohm is full professor at the University of Flensburg and director of the
Department of Ecology and Environmental Education. He studied biology/ecology
(major), chemistry, physics, geology, environmental sciences, and philosophy
(minor subjects) and is interested in the macroecology and species diversity of
ecosystems, with a focus on rare, threatened, and endemic species, their habitats,
and ecology in response to changing natural and cultural conditions.
He edited a book on Biodiversity (2000, in German language) and Endemism in
Vascular Plants (2014). He and his team are organizing, updating, and analyzing
different databases, for example, on Endemic Vascular Plants in Europe
(EvaplantE), Plant Endemism Assessment of Red List habitats in Europe
(PEARL), and a database on hyperendemics (Hypedata).

About the Authors
Carl Beierkuhnlein holds the chair of biogeography as a full professor. His
research interests are biodiversity and climate change with regional focus on oceanic
islands and the Canary Islands in particular. Additionally, he is conducting biogeographical experiments on extreme climatic events and modeling of species distribution patterns on a large scale. He is speaker of the study program Global Change
Ecology.
