Zhongyu Wang received his B.S. degree at Dalian University of Technology in 2012. Then, he
decided to develop his vision and techniques for scientific research and became a Ph.D. student
of Prof. Dr. Jingwen Chen. His major interest is to review available ideas and innovate new ideas,
tools, and schemes for modeling phenomena and solving problems in the field of environmental health science. In 2016, under the supervision of Prof. Chen, Wang published a review article titled “Computational toxicology: Oriented for chemicals risk assessment” in Scientia Sinica
Chimica, which helped in introducing then relatively unfamiliar concept of computational toxicology to Chinese researchers. In 2018, Wang published a monograph titled “Environmental computational chemistry and toxicology” together with Prof. Chen, and Dr. Zhiqiang Fu. Fellows may
find him staring at the screen of his laptop, working on some Python scripts for bizarre ideas.
Besides, he also enjoys listening to music of various genres, appreciating and creating digital arts,
etc.
Jingwen Chen is Professor (since 2001) of environmental chemistry and dean for the School of
Environmental Science and Technology at Dalian University of Technology. He graduated from
the Northeast Normal University, received his B.S. in 1991 and M.S. in 1994. After getting Ph.D.
from the Nanjing University in 1997, he performed post-doctoral studies at the German Research
Center for Environmental Health as an Alexander von Humboldtian. His research interests concern ecological chemistry and computational toxicology on organic chemicals. He has published
over 260 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, book chapters, and three books (two monographs and
one textbook). He served as a member of editorial boards of several international (Ecotox. Environ. Safe., J. Enviorn. Sci.) and domestic (e.g., Environ. Chem., Asian J. Ecotox., Mar. Environ.
Sci.) journals. In 2013, he won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and
was appointed as chair professor of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” by China Ministry of Education.
