Chaoyang Zhang is Professor in the School of Computing Sciences and Computer Engineering at
the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). He served as the Director of School of Computing
at USM from 2008 to 2014. His research interests include data mining, machines learning, big
data analytics, and their applications to the interdisciplinary areas of bioinformatics, health care
and toxicity analysis. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF),
Department of Defense (DOD), National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and National Institute of
Health (NIH). Dr. Zhang received his MS in computer science and Ph.D. in computational analysis
and modeling from Louisiana Tech University. Prior to joining USM in 2003, he was a research
assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont.
