Zahlung der BASF an Haber, 25 February1953. The existence of this contract is so important to the story of Robert Le Rossignol that I contacted Prof.
Szöllössi-Janze by email to confirm my translation of her book, which she
kindly did by email, 01 August 2014.

this arrangement was confirmed by Prof. Szöllössi-Janze by email, 01 August
2014. During the war in September 1916 the amount donated by the men
had reached 50,000 marks at which point the ‘Haber Foundation’—as it was
eventually called—was realised. Haber thought of leaving the money to the
chemistry department allowing Engler and Bunte to work out the details of
its expenditure. At the beginning of January 1917 Haber gave them the
money, the largest part of it in 5% ‘Fünfter Deutscher Kriegsanleihe’ (5th
issue German war bonds) but stipulating that only the interest should be used
in furthering the objectives of the Institute. The Haber Foundation survived
the time of German hyper-inflation, put itself back into good shape in 1926
and by 1936 had acquired a wealth of 26,000 Reichesmark. It existed during
and after the second world war and only in 1985 when it was merged with
other financially weak foundations to create the ‘Vereinigten Studienstiftung
der Universität Karlsruhe’ (the United Study Foundation of the University of
Karlsruhe) did its name finally disappear.
