published till 30 September 2020. The search was made using online platforms
such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. The following
keywords and their combinations were used to search for literature: microplastics,
environmental pollution, FTIR, biota, sediments, water). Besides, the names of the
SAARC nations were tagged along with the keywords as mentioned earlier. A total of
60 publications from the SAARC nations were found in which microplastics research
work was documented from terrestrial and marine ecosystems (Fig. 1).
2 The Knowledge of Microplastics Research in SAARC
Nations
Compared to the amount of work that has been carried on different facets of
microplastic research in other parts of the world, works conducted in the SAARC
nations are relatively few. However, there is a rising trend seen in the number of data
