Piggott-McKellar et al. 2019a), shows that the onus is on these external agencies
to reappraise their models of assistance, to take a step back and become facilitators
rather than doers of adaptation in others’ places (McNamara et al. 2020).
Note
Since our research on Ono Island in mid 2019, Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold
(April 2020) tore across the island, flattening many of the buildings in the villages
we visited and damaging livelihoods. We expect that the impact of this may have
changed some of the views about climate change on which we report here.
