12 Direct Photo-Thermal Energy Storage Using Nanoparticles …

12.5 Conclusions
Experimental results reveal that addition of amorphous carbon nanoparticles can
effectively improve the charging rate of PCMs. Furthermore, temperature distribution
measurements show that optical heating of PCM in presence of nanoparticles could
achieve more distributed energy absorption and hence proving to be an efficient and
reliable method for charging PCMs. Volumetric heating gives more effective results
as compared to conventional thermal charging under similar operating conditions.
As a part of the future work, we intent to develop a comprehensive theoretical model
simulating the optical charging process.
