Paulin [52] was born on June 25, 1752 in Mariestad, Bergman’s home town. Paulin
defended his thesis on the origins of chemistry, de primordiis chemiae, in June
1779 (Sect. 9.3). One and a half year later, on November 23, 1780 he took a
bachelor degree in theology and was ordained on December 13, the same year. In
1787 he was appointed assistant vicar in Bro-Lossa in Uppland. He died on July 19,
1797.
