Kien Luong and Giang Thanh (Kien Giang Province). Quite a lot of peatlands in
Plain of Reeds (Rung Rinh peat-swamp and peatlands located along with ancient
abandoned courses in Long An and Dong Thap Provinces) and Long Xuyen
Quadrangle (peat-swamps in Hon Dat and Kien Luong Districts, Kien Giang
Province) have also been converted to crop farming (Fig. 29.5).
The land conversion has been a key driver of peatland degradation and peatland
loss poverty and the dependency on peatland resources of local communities living
in and around peatland areas has also contributed significantly to the declining trend
of peatlands
