been very successful in reducing the occurrence of fallen trees. The detailed results
of this experiment will be reported at another time (Fig. 7.26).
7.6 Conclusion
By studying the unique tropical peatland ecosystem, we identified extremely effective plant growth mechanisms even in high GWL peatland where oxygen and
nutrients are seriously limited.
Plant strategies in the native peatland forest are very simple and include:
1. O 2 is obtained from land surface [functions of aerial roots and mound roots].
2. Nutrients are obtained from litter on the mounds [function of microorganisms].
3. N 2 fixing occurs in aerial roots.
Thus, as a symbiotic system is important, it is recommended to apply the
following materials:
1. PGP (plant growth promotion) substances.
2. A matrix for microorganisms [biochar and zeolite].
In conclusion, if AeroHydro culture is appropriate, plant growth can be substantially improved or stimulated even at high GWLs.
