We recommend
• To generate further insights into how LNIP initiatives could be part of the integral
urban green infrastructure of cities for future nature conservation and urban health
policies.
• The active participation and agency of communities to maintain the places, should
be formally acknowledged.
• External top-down led participatory approaches (i.e. PDS) may not be needed.
On the contrary, the environmental management manifested in Villatina and
Eduardo Santos neighbourhoods could be considered as an alternative to avoid
disempowerment, and dependency of the communities to the local government
interventions.
• Continuity and support of community-led LNIP initiatives which positively affect
urban health, advance community empowerment, environmental awareness and
wellbeing across settlements located in extreme urban environments.
