6.8.1 Inorganic Nanocomposites
Nanocomposites are another kind of nanomaterial which is used for the removal of
different types of contaminates (e.g. heavy metal, dyes, and pesticides). It consists of
activated carbon, and some natural component of bentonite, zeolite, and montmorillonite. They are strongly held together by Van der Waal forces which help in the
formation of big bundles. Carbon nanotubes are considered as excellent adsorbents
due to excessive hollow structure, large surface area, acid stability, and high reactivity
shown in Fig. 6.7. Several techniques were employed for the production of CNT. But
They left them with some impurities including metallic and carbonaceous compounds.
These impurities lead to poor performance of these nanocomposities which can
remove and modify by combining with certain material like (hexadecyltrimethyl
ammonium bromide (CTAB), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), magnetite,
cellulose, etc. inorder to get desirable properties. Salam et al. formed Multi-walled
