remodeling, are based largely on the work of (in alphabetical order) Pat Alford,
Gabriela Espinosa, Ben Filas, Kara Garcia, Hadi Hosseini, Alina Oltean, Yunfei Shi,
Victor Varner, and Gang Xu. Many of these individuals also provided feedback on
this book. Numerous other students worked diligently to establish a firm foundation
for these models.
I also would like to thank my friends and colleagues Phil Bayly, Jay Humphrey,
and Jessica Wagenseil for their insightful and valuable comments. Special thanks
are due to Victor Barocas and Pat Alford, who used parts of an early version of this
book in their courses at the University of Minnesota and provided valuable student
feedback.
Finally, I thank my wife, Char, for her encouragement and support, her editorial
assistance, and for putting up with me for decades, especially as I toiled over this
book.
I hope that readers will find this book useful and that there are not too many
mistakes. Undoubtedly, there are errors that I, unfortunately, cannot blame on others.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who finds something wrong or has any other
comments on the book, mechanobiology, or even baseball.
