2030. Poland in 2017 received only 14% of the share. The construction of hydroelectric power plants should be promoted as directly affecting the increase in the share
of renewable energy sources in energy production, and also allowing to increase
the diversification of supply sources and create conditions for the development of
distributed energy. Currently, there is no state strategy in Poland for the development
of small hydropower.
It is important to realize that every method of obtaining energy has its advantages
and disadvantages, which entails environmental, economic and social consequences.
The most important thing is, therefore, to take an optimal decision, strictly adapted
to the prevailing conditions and situations, which is not an easy task.
The main advantage of hydropower engineering is a mature technology, which
can be implemented relatively quickly, which allows us to start solving problems
related to climate change.
Poland still has the potential to build new power plants and use new, more efficient
turbines, and as a result it should translate into an increase in the share of ecological
electricity generation that can meet future energy needs.
17.11 Recommendations
The content presented in this chapter is important for the proper management of water
resources for the needs of hydropower in Poland, both on a national and regional
scale.
The information presented can be used by policy makers to develop an appropriate
energy policy for the country. Support from the state administration and establishing
a multi-annual program will allow for greater interest in the modernization of existing
hydropower plants and the construction of new facilities.
