littoral states have all now outlawed the dolphin hunt. In the Faroe Islands, dolphins
are also taken as part of the annual pilot whale drive fishery (see next section).
Although the overall population trend of the common bottlenose dolphin is not
known, it is listed as ‘least concern’ by the IUCN. Primary threats to the species
derive from diseases, pollution, ship strikes and underwater noise.
