2.9 Existing Gaps in Present Practices
In order to accomplish effective environmental planning, it is essential to identify
the gaps between environmental planning, education and practices. In the environmental plans in India, the existing gaps are as follows:
1. Strategically important issues such as climate change and variability, ozone
layer depletion, greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity threats and ecosystem
services are not thoroughly considered.
2. Gaps exist in long-term environmental goals for biodiversity and ecosystems,
environmental justice and equity, environmental supervision, link between
long-term missions and practical objectives. Local environmental plans need to
chalk out a framework for sustainability.
3. There is a lack of environmental information, environmental conflict management procedures at local level and effective collaboration for planning policies
and plans.
