another is professional or old groups. Prime problems are identified through this
survey are - artists are unable to perform their acting, songs and poetry in a pleasant
environment and their performance are not always well accepted as they use wrong
words for making jokes, coping the style of western dance, and tendency to coping
the tune of the songs from Hindi film which decrease the cultural value of Gajan.
Unwillingness to take Gajan as profession as the scope of earning because its social
status is very much low and educated and skilled artists are decreasing day by day,
a few good artists are attach with this presently. This folk culture is one of the media
to educate rural people; this faith is being decreased with time, and educated population of village is not very much interested in this carnival and not doing some steps
to restore it. During my fieldwork when I had interviewed some Gajan artists, I am
able to understand their perception about this cultural heritage and present problems
associated with it.

One of the famous Gajan singers in Kulpi Block said that Gajan is passing through
a crisis. The popular film songs and recorded songs and its tune have a deep influence on Gajan songs. He said his request to save Gajan receives no response. The
comparatively rich, educated and established people of this region never participate
or sponsor money for Gajan. To organise a Gajan team, purchasing costumes and
make up for artists and musical instruments for performance is not an easy task for
almost poor and marginalized people of this region. Mostly less educated people are
involved in this folk culture, the language of Gajan songs became devaluated day by
day but Gajan should have its own unique tune and language and it should be so
inviting that all members of a family can enjoy it together, but presently social status
of Gajan decreasing day by day.

A popular artists of Chak Gajan also identifies some problems of Gajan artists, and
the main problem is poverty and low standard of living, and socio-economic status
of this area is not good so educational status is also low which is the main reason
behind scarcity of skilled and educated Gajan artists, so cheap jokes became important part of Gajan and rich, educated people are always remain reluctant to show
interest.
One of the members of West Bengal Lekhak o Shilpi Sangathan (Organisation of
writers and poets of West Bengal) Shree Gouranga Chakraborty said that their organisation decided to help to sustain this rural folk culture. As Gajan is not only a form
of entertainment for rural people but it has a social commitment and it gives birth
unity within all class, caste and gender and people from a different religion. Previously
