who will get their portions of habitation along with new well-off families who can
afford to buy these apartments at the core city. But again renewal planning must be
locally contingent (Gupta 2014). Traditional forms of reuse of old buildings tend to
gentrify the locality like conversion of the buildings into upscale apartments which
include community development and genuine urban renewal. This sort of approach
can therefore harmonise conflicting values among those involved in the restoration
and renovation of old buildings. The process of renewal should therefore be seen as
community development rather than mere beautification of city core (Paoli 2012). A
well-developed plan of conservation and reuse of these old buildings and an ingenious programme to develop viable business activities in these areas will eventually
generate the necessary revenues that will justify expenditure. Finally, Government
policy will pay a crucial role in regular valuation of these old urban properties and
must generate proper comprehensive renewal plan for the holistic development of
urban space in this city.
