The study by Anindya Basu (Diamond Harbour) on ‘Eyeing Sustainability:
Electronic Waste Handling in Kolkata’ (Chap. 18) is an attempt to provide an idea
about the e-waste composition, current scenario, effectiveness of the legal framework, nature of recycling, related environmental and occupational hazards and
awareness level. This chapter is a micro level case-study conducted in the KMC area
of West Bengal, India, which reflects the ground reality of the Global South. She has
also stressed on formulating a roadmap for sustainable and effective e-waste management primarily through Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) approach
ensuring a healthy environment.
