furnace for her research [5, 6]. The objectives were to improve energy transfer and
reduce wear in the furnace. The computational domain is shown in Fig. 6.
Another student looked at the chemistry and properties of secondary lead blast
furnace slags [7, 8]. He measured density, viscosity, and leaching characteristics as
a function of composition and temperature. The experimental system is shown in
Fig. 7.
Past Research
Another student worked to develop a method to selectively extract zinc from galvanized steel [9, 10] (Fig. 8). The work was funded by the Center for Resource
Recovery and Recycling. This work was patented [11].
