Bruno Borsari an agroecologist, has spent more than 30 years teaching, researching and
consulting in sustainable development, restoration ecology, soil/water conservation and food security. He received his Laurea in agricultural sciences in 1986 from the University of Bologna, Italy,
and in 2001 he earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans,
LA, USA. He taught biology, agroecology, and restoration ecology in various countries (mainly
west and central Africa), but also in Bolivia, Italy, Panamá, Louisiana and Pennsylvania. Between
2000 and 2004 he was Faculty and Coordinator of the first graduate program in sustainability
(MS3 program) in the U.S. in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Environmental Education
of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. From 2005, he was a professor in the Department
of Biology at Winona State University, MN, retiring in 2019.
Francisco Ugel Garrido is an educator with 37 years of teaching and research experience in
English as a foreign language, English for specific purposes, distance education, educational
research and research methodologies. He graduated as Doctor of Education-Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University, Florida, USA. His teaching
experience was gained mainly in the Faculty of Medicine, Medical Education Department, where
he coordinated a graduate program (Health Science Education MSc.). Dr. Ugel is also a seasoned
administrator with 30 years of experience in university management, including a President post
from 2006 to 2014 at Universidad Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado, Venezuela. Since 2015,
he has been serving as Provost and VP of Academic Affairs at Universidad Tecnológica Oteima,
Panamá.
Edmundo González an agronomist specialized in grazing systems for cattle and water buffaloes
in tropical savannahs, has more than 20 years of experience as an instructor, exhibitor and
a consultant. He holds a BS in Agricultural Sciences (1994) and a MSc. in Dairy Science
(2000) from the Universidad Centro Occidental “Lisandro Alvarado” (UCLA) in Barquisimeto,
Venezuela. He served there as Professor and Coordinator of forage production and quality in the
pre and postgraduate programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine until 2013. Currently, he is a
Professor and Coordinator of Research at OTEIMA Technological University in David, Panamá.
