Sustainable Development of Rural Tourist Settlements in Serbia …
181
Considering the natural, geographical, cultural-historical, climatic and other benefits, Serbia has very favourable conditions for the development of those types of
tourism that can in the long run affect the directions of tourist movements, both
locally and internationally, and which can affect the offerings in tourist resorts when
it comes to meeting the diverse needs and requirements of both domestic and foreign
tourists. In order to achieve better results in its tourism development, it must first
and foremost invest in the achieved volume of accommodation and other capacities,
as well as in the provision of tourism infrastructure and supra-structure, reposition
its present competitive position in the tourism market and define the main strategic
goals and directions of tourism development.
Given the diversity of tourism potential, the creators and holders of tourism development policy in Serbia must focus on those tourism products and services that will
allow maximum economic effects as well as recognition on the regional and international tourism market. Accordingly, in the tourism development strategy, one of the
development plans in tourism is to make the destinations competitive and its products
attractive. Serbia has great tourism potential for the development of almost all forms
of tourism through the aid of regional and local investments, and it has the potential to
compete for EU funds that would conditionally rebuild neglected tourism facilities
or launch some new projects. However, apart from investing in infrastructure and
sub-infrastructure, particular attention should be paid to the environmental regime
and the involvement of the local population in the process of tourism development
and services.
