3 Material and Methods
The Pozna´ n Metropolis covers 11% of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship. It is inhabited by about 1 million people (30% of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship’s population)
and is characterised by high urbanisation of the areas around Pozna´ n. Social and
economic functional relations between centres of the metropolis and transportation
infrastructure are highly developed. Agricultural areas comprise 35% of the agglomeration area. The Pozna´ n Metropolis includes the city of Pozna´ n and 21 communes:
2 urban, 12 urban–rural, and 7 rural. The spatial scope of the research includes the
rural communes: Czerwonak, Dopiewo, Kleszczewo, Komorniki, Rokietnica, Suchy
Las, and Tarnowo Podgórne. The spatial development of this area is differentiated. It
includes highly urbanised communes, Czerwonak and Suchy Las, industrial-ruralservice communes, Suchy Las and Tarnowo Podgórne, and rural and rural-tourist
communes, Dopiewo and Kleszczewo (Kaczmarek 2016). Six of seven villages are
seats of the communes and meet the criteria of an urban classification (Kleszczewo
is the exception)
2 (Fig. 1).
The analysis was conducted with particular reference to tourist and recreational
areas and complexes determined during works on the Concept of Spatial Development Directions for the Pozna´ n Metropolis (Kaczmarek and Mikuła 2016) that play
or are predestined to play a recreational and tourist role.
To collect the information from visitors, a direct survey with the technique of
an interview and questionnaire was used. The questionnaire comprised a total of
29 questions (closed and open ended) and included queries on socio-demographics,
participation in tourist and recreational activities in the metropolitan area, motives
of trips, expectations and needs, forms and areas of recreation, and expenses for
different forms of tourism and recreation. In addition, respondents had a map of
tourist, recreational areas and complexes of the Pozna´ n Metropolis at their disposal
for easy geographical navigation to aid them in the completion of the survey.
People visiting public recreational areas, squares, green areas, parks, tourist trails,
and tourist and recreational areas were approached and introduced to the project.
After receiving their consent, the person conducting the survey led them through the
interview and then to completing the questionnaire. Collected material was quantitatively and qualitatively verified for completeness, then the authors conducted data
coding and processing using the statistical software SPSS.
3 Results of the survey
were subjected to statistical analysis using structure and correlation parameters and
then were presented in tables, graphs, and in text. Analysis of co occurrence of the
variables was conducted based on the Pearson’s r correlation coefficient.
2 Criteria of urban classification determined by the Council of Ministers are: population size
(minimum 2 thousand inhabitants), adequate technical infrastructure, urban spatial and functional features, adequate institutions serving the population, predomination of employment outside
agriculture (Kaczmarek 2016).
3 A software purchased by the Pozna´ n School of Banking was used.
