Chapter 22
Integration of Local and Global
Perspectives
Weisheng Zhou
Abstract Global warming cannot be solved without multidimensional cooperation
such as international cooperation; however, it is also a typical interdisciplinary
problem, and as such, an interdisciplinary approach is an essential condition for
the realization of a sustainable decarbonized society. This chapter provides an
overall summary of the previous chapters and raises several key academic queries
which are core to a regional, low-carbon sustainable society. It explores prospects
from the transdisciplinary perspective through the integration of different fields,
from technology to social systems. This chapter is the conclusion for this whole book
and emphasizes the importance of integrating local and global environmental measures with several initial schemes and design ideas.
22.1 Integrated Strategy for Countermeasures Against
Global Warming and International Environmental
Cooperation
East Asia has been attempting to address several issues: economic development
(overcoming poverty), local environmental issues (overcoming pollution), and
global environmental issues (CO 2 emissions reduction), alongside air and water
pollution, soil contamination, ecosystem destruction, DSS, desertification,
transboundary pollution, and the long-term security of nuclear power and energy
resources. The implementation of multidimensional and composite measures and
wide-based international cooperation are becoming increasingly important. The
realization of environmental cooperation between Japan, China, Korea, and the
broader East Asian region is expected to lead to the formation of a sustainable and
vibrant international society. In such a society, economic development, pollution
reduction, and social harmony are balanced, in addition to measures to mitigate
