renewable energy power generation equipment. Eventually, this will lead to loss of
power generation opportunities for some renewable energy facilities.
We analyzed the amount of renewable energy introduced in regions with low
power demand, considering factors that influence the introduction of solar power
generation. The amount of solar radiation is directly related to the output of solar
power generation. In addition, since a considerable amount of land is required for
solar power generation, land rent is a substantial cost. In order to clarify relationships
between the amount of certified solar power generation of 10 kW or more and solar
radiation and land rent in each region of Japan, multiple regression analysis was
performed.
The location of a meteorological station that observes sunshine hours (AMeDAS)
and a total of 843 points (municipalities) were used as the survey population. After
assigning a number to each point in this population, 80 points were randomly
sampled. The capacity of certified solar power generation facilities of 10 kW or
more in each municipality in December 2015 is the response variable. Ordinancedesignated cities, such as Kyoto and Sakai, were also sampled, but the size of these
areas is clearly larger than other municipalities, and the range in land prices is great.
Data from government-designated cities such as Sakai City were not used.
The explanatory variable of solar radiation was obtained from the New Energy
and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) solar radiation database, which records month, azimuth angle, and tilt angle. For convenience, an
azimuth angle of 0
, tilt angle of 30
, and annual average total solar radiation are
used. Although there is some regional variation, maximum output of solar power
generation equipment can be achieved when installed with an azimuth of 0
and an
inclination of 30
.
There are no specific data available for the second explanatory variable, land rent,
so average land price in each municipality was used instead (land price can reflect
land rent rates). Average land price data were taken from SUMAITI, a real estate
information site. Factors such as topography and the ratio of vacant land may also
affect the amount of certified solar power generation facilities of 10 kW or more, but
are not considered here since data on these variables are difficult to obtain.
Figures 21.3 and 21.4 show the relationship between the total capacity of certified
solar power facilities of 10 kW or more and the amount of solar radiation and
average land price. Transformations were applied to the explanatory variables in
order to maintain linearity of the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression model,
which accounts for the possibility of alternating terms between variables.
The number of variables input into the multiple regression model was large
(Table 21.1), so the theoretically possible number of models was very large.

power lines.
2 Since there are 19 variables, there is a possibility of 2
19 state species in theory.
