Abstract
The coastal aquifer of the Sahel region of Algiers has been very solicited by the abusive
anthropic use which generated the problem of vulnerability and marine intrusion and
consequently the fall of the water level in this coastal Aquifer. The determination of the origin
of the marine intrusion of water in this water table was made starting from the GALDIT
approach.
The GALDIT model is based on six relevant parameters: the type of aquifer (G) and the
hydraulic conductivity (A) of the aquifer, the altitude of the water table (L), the distance from
the shore (D), the impact of marine intrusion (I) and the thickness of the water table (T). The
result of this approach shows that the vulnerability of the water table in the Bay of Algiers
increases from upstream to downstream. In fact, the entire northern part bordering the shoreline
is highly vulnerable to pollution by sea water.
