According to Beijing meteorological data, the average urban wind speed in recent
years was 2.5 m/s with a maximum of 13.9 m/s. The average annual precipitation
of the city is generally between 550 and 650 mm, with large variation through the
year. The specific statistics can be seen in Fig. 5.50. Precipitation distribution in the
region is uneven throughout the year. The precipitation of the flood season (June–
September) accounts for more than 80% of that of the whole year, as detailed in
Fig. 5.51.
In addition to the extremely uneven distribution by time, the spatial distribution
of precipitation in Beijing is also non-uniform. According to the Beijing Water
Resources Bulletin (2015), precipitation in the northwestern part of Beijing is small,
and that in the east and southeast parts is large.
