(b) Conclusions
Based on the screening, toxicity analysis and exposure assessment of groundwater
pollutants in the landfill, it is concluded that there are no pathways of exposure to
hazardous and toxic pollutants that undermine human health. In other words,
groundwater pollutants in the site will not cause human health risk.
5.4 Southeast China
Case 8 Investigation of basic environmental conditions, source intensity evaluation and risk assessment for groundwater in a landfill in Fujian Province
1. Overview of the study area
(1) Physiographic condition
A landfill in A city, a province in southeast China, is located in Shoushan Township
in the northern suburb of the city, at an altitude of about 480 m, 3.6 km from the
urban area, and 2400 m from a park in A city to the south. The landfill expansion
project site is located in a col 500 m west of a river crossing, with Phase I landfill
area of a landfill and a waste incineration power plant 1000 m to the east, and the
Hongqi tea plantation 1600 m to the east.
The site is located on the north slope of Peak L in the northern suburb of A city of a
province in southeast China, on the A river side of the watershed between F River and
H River. The watershed is an offset of the Jiufeng Mountains in the east wing,
stretching hundreds of miles from northwest to southeast. The mountain gradually
decreases and ends in the hills around Guantou Ridge in Lianjiang County.
This area is a mixed landform of low mountain steep slope and gentle slope with
structural erosion. The development around the site is mainly composed of two
valleys from southeast to northwest and from northeast to southwest. The highest
peak in the surrounding hilly area is Peak I with an elevation of 606 m, followed by
Peak L with an elevation of 598 m.
The structure in this area is a part of the Neocathaysian system, and a fault zone
from Wangzhuang to a reservoir that controls A geothermal energy in a province in
southeast China over 3 km away to the west. According to the geological conditions
of the landfill by provincial geological engineering survey: in the ground survey of
Valley N, fault structure is found, and there are two groups of foundation stone:
northwest and northeast, with a linear density of 3 lines/m
2 . The foundation stone of
the landfill is composed of Lower Cretaceous volcanic lava of the Shimaoshan
Group, which is mainly crystal tufflava, with a weathering layer of about 1 m, and a
gravel and clay layer of about 1 m on it. There are six main types of rock bodies in the
area, namely cultivated soil, gravel, residual clay of block stone tufflava, highly
weathered crystal tufflava and moderately weathered crystal tufflava. The bedrock is
relatively complete and stable, and there is no slip block in the area.
