detect trends of changes in groundwater level from 1995 to 2019 (Table 6.6). During
this time span of 24 years, annual average groundwater level of the country as a
whole declined at the rate of 4.7 cm/year (Fig. 6.6). A remarkable declining trend
(>30 cm/year) in groundwater level is noticeable in the northwestern part of India in
the states/UTs of Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and in Andhra
Pradesh and Pondicherry.
