Composite Adaptation Index Using PCA
A composite adaptation index was constructed using principal component analysis
(PCA) for analyzing adaptation measures for salinity intrusion, fish/shrimp farming,
agriculture, bank soil erosion, floods, and cyclones (Fig. 5.11). The composite
adaptation index revealed very high adaptation in the Kakdwip, Kultali, Sagar,
Patharpratima, Namkhana, and Gosaba blocks of the SBR. High adaptation was
found in Hingalganj and Basanti blocks. The very high and high adaptations,
respectively, in these blocks are attributed to very high vulnerability to coastal
disasters.
