Figure 5.5 shows the results on composition of major elements, water, and ash.
The C, H, and N contents ranged from 46.2 to 48.4, 3.12 to 3.52, and 0.72 to 0.82%,
respectively. The ash and water contents in the samples ranged from 10.5 to 12.8 and
4.85 to 8.25%, respectively. The mean C, H, N, O, and ash contents of sclerotia
grains (n ¼ 6) were thus estimated as 47.6, 3.32, 0.79, 30.2, and 6.57%, respectively.
The water content of the samples was 11.6%. The atomic ratios of O/C and H/C
calculated on water- and ash-free bases were 0.48 and 0.83, respectively (Watanabe
et al. 2007).
