About the Author
Geert De Schutter is a full professor at Ghent University, Belgium. He is
currently conducting research in the field of concrete technology at the
Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research, Department of Structural
Engineering. He is laureate of several national and international awards
including the Vreedenburgh Award in 1998 and the prestigious international RILEM Robert L’Hermite Medal in 2001. In 2002, he was an
invited professor at Oita University, Japan. From 2008 to 2011, he was an
invited professor at the University of Cergy-Pontoise near Paris, France.
In 2012, he was awarded the Francqui Chair at the University of Liège,
Belgium. Since 1 February 2009, Professor De Schutter has served as director of development of RILEM. He previously co-authored the textbook
Self-Compacting Concrete published by Whittles Publishing in 2008.
