Abstract:
The Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, is one of the most widely farmed African
species in the world. This species is increasingly threatened by genetic improvements and
pressure on aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, greater consideration must be given to the
conservation of this strain.
In this study, we evaluated the macroscopic and microscopic quality using CASA
software based on storage duration (24h, 48h) at 4°C and two diluents of the two diluters the
first is a diluent extender (D1) and the second is based on egg yolk (D2). The study was
conducted on 7 male individuals of tilapia from the SARL AQUA PRO Ain Oussara farm.
Their average weight is 433.67±60.49 g. The fresh semen analyzed allowed us to record an
average volume of 0.28 ±0.26 ml, a pH of 6.83 ± 0.75, a concentration of 5562.15 ± 10730.41
×10
6 Spz/ml, and a viability of 57.67 ± 45.96%. Finally, the motility of the sperm was on
average 45±18.03 %. Our results also showed that the first solution was not effective in
preserving the quality of the sperm, unlike the second solution with egg yolk, which allowed
the sperm to remain viable for a longer period. In conclusion, the D2 diluent (enriched with egg
yolk) better preserves the vitality and motility of the sperm cooled to 4°C compared to the D1
diluent.
