2 Assessment of Water Resources in Poland
21
A system of man-made connections and reservoirs supplements Poland’s natural
hydrographic network. The longest canals in Poland include the 140-km-long
Wieprz-Krzna canal, which is used for drainage. The second-longest—the Augustowski canal (80 km)—is a navigation canal, as are others: the Elbl˛ aski canal
(62.5 km), the Gliwicki canal (41.2 km), the ´
Slesi´ nski canal (32.0 km), the Notecki
canal (25.0 km) and the Bydgoski canal (24.5 km). In recent years, rivers and channels
have been little used for water transport, especially for long-distance transportation
