7.6 Continuous Monitoring of a Dam Reservoir
for Management and Water Quality Protection—The
Goczałkowice Reservoir Case Study
Implementing the latest technical and technological developments for the analysis
of quality of water resources is connected with the need to meet the requirements
of the EU Water Framework Directive and state regulations. In the face of this challenge constant monitoring of physical and chemical parameters of water gives new
possibilities and perspectives of a better assessment of water quality [43, 44].
The subject of research carried out as part of the project Integrated System
Supporting Management and Protection of a Dam Reservoir (ZiZOZap) within the
Operational Program Innovative Economy was the Goczałkowice Reservoir on the
Vistula. Out of over 100 Polish reservoirs and barrages of a capacity bigger than 1
hm
3 the “Goczałkowice” reservoir is one of the biggest ones. As regards total storing
capacity (165.6 hm
3 ) and area at the maximum water level (32 km
2 ) it takes the fifth
