7 Water Quality in Main Dam Reservoirs in Poland

7.2 Research Methods and the Used Data
The analysis of water quality comprised 22 dam reservoirs (Fig. 7.1), constituting 20
surface water bodies. Input data come from monitoring carried out by the Voivodship
Inspectorates of Environmental Protection. The analysed reservoirs were subject to
diagnostic and operational monitoring. Monitoring is carried out in four-year cycles,
the present one within the framework of the third water management cycle lasting
from 2016 to 2021. Diagnostic monitoring comprises measurements of all groups of
water quality indexes: biological, hydromorphological, physicochemical characterising physical and oxygen conditions as well as organic pollutants, salinity, acidity,
biogenic indexes, specific synthetic and non-synthetic pollutants and also chemical
indexes characterising the presence of substances particularly harmful to the water
environment, including priority substances. Operational monitoring program encompasses flowing water bodies, including dam reservoirs threatened with not meeting
the environmental objectives. This kind of monitoring encompasses selected biological indexes, physicochemical indexes characterising physical, oxygen conditions
and organic pollutants, salinity, acidity, biogenic indexes as well as substances from
