Abstract :
This dissertation aims to characterize the coastal site of El Hamdania, located in the Wilaya of
Tipaza, as a crucial habitat for protected species. El Hamdania beach (known as “the beach of
the 3 islets”) stands out for its remarkable biodiversity and diverse natural landscapes,
harboring a range of species typical of coastal environments. This study aims to highlight the
ecological value of the site to guide potential conservation strategies in the face of increasing
threats from human activities.
The methodology followed is an ecological diagnosis based on landscape elements, including a
floristic inventory (cliffs and back beach extended by relict dunes), a bird inventory (cliffs,
beach, and islets), a granulometric analysis (sandy beach and the mouth of Oued El Hachem),
and a survey of fishermen (reservoir of artisanal fishing). An evaluation of the total ecological
value through a multicriteria analysis was also undertaken.
The granulometric analysis revealed notable variations in grain size distribution, with a
predominance of very coarse sediments indicating significant differences in energy conditions
and sedimentary processes present on the beach. Nonetheless, this beach exhibits characteristics
conducive to marine turtle nesting.
The floristic inventory revealed 49 species of vascular plants, belonging to 45 genera and 23
families. The inventoried species showed morphological and biological characteristics adapted
to survival by the sea (salinity, winds, and soil dryness). One of the inventoried species
(Crithmum maritimum L.) is listed as a protected species at the national level.
The bird inventory identified 21 species of birds, among which Charadriiformes and
Passeriformes are the most represented. The observed species include resident breeders,
passage visitors, migratory breeders, winterers, and occasional breeders. Most species are
classified as “Least Concern” by the IUCN, except for Audouin’s Gull (Larus audouinii),
classified as “Vulnerable.”
The results of the survey conducted with artisanal fishermen highlighted the presence of
various remarkable marine species, such as cetaceans and turtles encountered during their sea
activities, and demonstrated an increased awareness of the need to protect these species.
Given the ecological and economic importance highlighted by this study and the challenges
posed by human activities, it is imperative to adopt effective conservation measures to preserve
this unique ecosystem and support the local communities dependent on its resources.
