Abstract
The main objective of this study is to purify and evaluate the growth of microalgae
belonging to the Chlorella group in two different culture media; namely the BBM culture
medium and wastewater treated in order to contribute to the maximum production of a
microalgal biomass ready to use for a bioenergy application, in a context of development of
renewable energies. The experiments were carried out on a laboratory scale in a closed
system, in batch mode and under controlled operating conditions (pH, temperature, light and
agitation). The results obtained revealed rapid growth and good biomass production with
maximum cell densities and growth rates ranging from 1.75 – 5.10
7 cell\mL; 0.217– 0.367d1 in wastewater and BBM; respectively. In addition, the highest dry biomass was obtained
in the BBM (1.45 g/L), followed by such a high biomass in the wastewater (0.89 g/L). The
analysis of the lipids of the algal biomass showed a lipid level of 8.6 and 16% respectively
in the BBM and wastewater, which makes it possible to estimate a biofuel production of the
order of 0.1992 and 0.224 Oil /L.
