Guangqian Wang
Academician and Professor
Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
Academician Guangqian Wang is a full professor and
doctoral supervisor at the Department of Hydraulic
Engineering, Tsinghua University. He is granted with the
National Natural Science Foundation of China for
Distinguished Young Scholars in 1995, hired as a distinguished professor in Cheung Kong Scholars in 2000,
and elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences in 2009. Academician Guangqian Wang is also
the president of Qinghai University, a standing committee member of the 13th Chinese People’s Political
Consultative Conference, and a vice chairman of the 12th
Central Committee of the China Democratic League.
Academician Guangqian Wang is a leading scientist
in the field of hydroscience and river governance. He
presents a dynamic two-phase flow model of sediment
transport based on the basic theory for flow and sediment transport, which reveals the different characteristics of water turbulence and particle movement.
Moreover, he proposes a dynamic model of soil erosion
and sediment transport in a basin, which can realize the
process coupling of the river channel and basin, and
extend the sediment research from the river to basin
scale. Findings derived from these researches have
advanced the field of sediment science. In addition, he
has solved many key scientific and technological
problems in engineering applications. For example, the
key problems concerning the break-flow, river burst,
and soil erosion in the Yellow River Basin, the problem
of sediment in the Three Gorges, and the danger release
of the barrier lake caused by the earthquake in the
Yangtze River. Academician Wang has published
numerous scientific monographs and won many awards
including the first and second prize of the National
Award for Progress in Science and Technology.
