Dr. John Zhang
Research Hydrologist
Grazinglands Research Laboratory
USDA-ARS, El Reno, USA
Xunchang (John) Zhang, a research hydrologist in the
USDA-ARS, is nationally and internationally recognized for expertise in the field of erosion processes.
Dr. Zhang developed and tested a new technique to
generate spatially distributed erosion data using Rare
Earth Elements (REE) as tracers. Since the publication
of his work, the technique has been used by scientists
from many countries and across many disciplines.
Moreover, a downscaling method presented by him
also overcomes the stationary limitation suffered in all
existing approaches. Dr. Zhang has authored or
co-authored over 100 SCI journal articles, one book,
and seven chapters during his over 30 years of research.
He received six best paper awards in four research
subject areas. Several of his papers have had major
impacts on advancing sciences in the field.
