Genus Dulhuntyispora (Potonie 1956).
Diagnosis: Trilete, cavate. Outline triangular to sub-triangular. Exine consists of
two layers; a thick, solid intra-punctate layer overlain by a hyaline layer forming
three blisters over the inter-apical area.
Known distribution: Australia Upper Permian (Dulhunty 1946; Balme 1952;
Balme and Hennely 1955), Lower Permian of Queensland (Evans 1969).
Discussion: Dulhuntyispora was described under the name Tholosporites by
Balme and Hennelly (1956). However, their publication was preceded by a couple of weeks by Potonie’s publication naming the spore Dulhuntyispora. Potonie
described the spore from Dulhunty’s drawing and misinterpreted its construction.
Therefore, although the name given to it by Potonie is retained having priority
over Tholosporites, Balme and Hennelly’s (1956) illustrations must serve as type
species.
Dulhuntyispora dulhunty (Potonie 1956) (Fig. 2.21).
Occurrence: Rare. Appears only in Upper Permian samples of Collie–Muja Basin
