About the Vakur Sumer
Vakur Sumer received his Ph.D. on International
Relations at the Middle East Technical University,
Ankara, Turkey. He is an Associate Professor and
faculty member in the Department of International
Relations, Selçuk University, Konya, Turkey; and the
Director of the Eurasian Research Institute at Akhmet
Yassawi University, Almaty, Kazakhstan. He has
worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Global Research
Institute at the University of North Carolina – Chapel
Hill, NC, USA, and as a visiting scholar in the
Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the
University of California – Davis, CA, USA. He was
also a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and
International Law in Heidelberg, Germany in 2012. His areas of focus include water
issues, transboundary rivers, environmental politics, and Turkey’s accession to the
European Union. He is a Member of the International Studies Association
(ISA) and the International Water Association.
