energy without releasing harmful substances. An example of Green innovation is
the kingfisher-inspired bullet train in Japan called the Shinkansen bullet train (see
Fig. 3.8). The modification was as a result of sound pollution that previous trains
brought about. The engineer who designed the train was a birdwatcher and used
the body of the kingfisher, which creates little splashes while diving in water, as
inspiration.
Explain the positive effects of the Shinkansen bullet trains in Japan.
3.10 House-to-House Activities
Domestic life plays a crucial role in determining the future of the planet. House
activities determine the level of pollution. Therefore, the use of biodegradable
house commodities helps to conserve the environment, whereas the use of nonbiodegradable commodities leads to the degradation of the environment. For
instance, the deployment of more natural cleaners and personal products can lead
to minimal environmental harm. Responsible house activities also play a role
in conserving resources. Thirdly, house activities play a crucial role in energy
conservation, which also contributes to less pollution. The fourth role is that house
activities that reduce waste and consumption promote Greenness. The resultant
effect of minimizing our consumption, especially goods, is that we use fewer
resources at home, thus lessening the generation of waste, the usage of energy,
and the environmental impact of consumption. When less waste is generated, it
means that only a small quantity of waste is taken into landfills. Consequently,
house activities geared toward reducing the quantity of waste plays a crucial role
in sustainability.
