Chapter 3
Everyday Activities in the Green World
Abstract Anthropogenic activities play a crucial role in determining the state
of the Green World. To this extent, understanding the role played by everyday
activities is crucial for ascertaining their likely impacts on the environment and
the ecosystem. Each activity plays a crucial role in sustainability and improvement
of the Green World, but this chapter will mainly focus on organic and sustainable
agriculture, energy, science and technology, socio-political systems and rural-urban
migration, house-to-house activities, and transportation. Emphasis is placed on the
five principles identified in the first chapter, which were resource conservation,
pollution reduction, energy conservation, waste reduction, and protecting the earth’s
ecological balance. Sky Greens Singapore is the case study embedded in the chapter
to provide insight on everyday activities. Using an experiment on energy and the
individual contributions of Vandana Shiva, this chapter lays the foundation for
understanding the contribution of our activities to the environment and society.
This chapter lays the foundation for understanding the Going Green movement or
subject, particularly the contribution of our activities to the environment and society.

3.1 Introduction
Various activities play detrimental roles in the Green World. In this chapter, the
“Green World” will refer to activities that promote the conservation, protection,
and sustainability of the environment. They emphasize on the five aspects identified
in Chap. 1 about Going Green: Growth, Renewable, Efficient, Economically Sustainable, and Natural. These activities also involve the adoption of the five major
principles identified in Chap. 1: Conservation of resources, reduction of pollution,
conservation of energy, reduction of waste, and protection of the ecological balance
of the earth. In discussing the various sub-chapters, the focus will be on the
contribution of each towards a greener world. The negative impacts of these sectors
will be explored in Chap. 4.
