Green Entrepreneurship
Abstract An appropriate waste management will be beneficial for improving
environmental quality and provide business opportunities. Greenpreneurship is
one of the concepts that can be beneficial for waste management and the quest
for environmental sustainability. This chapter seeks to explore the concept of
greenpreneurship basing on waste management, examine its fundamentals, look at
the current and future trends, explore the role played by green entrepreneurship
in attaining sustainable development goals, challenges encountered in developing
a green business, and propose solutions for addressing them. Various case studies
in architecture, agriculture, environment, and business are used for demonstrating
the growth and status of green entrepreneurship today. The practical application is
about green business ideas for the aspiring green entrepreneurs, while the individual
matter of Achenyo Idachaba is used for more in-depth exploration of the topic. This
chapter acts as a timely contribution to the Going Green initiatives by demonstrating
the way businesses can orient themselves to promote environmental sustainability.

11.1 Introduction
Many international organizations share the opinion that the world should transition
towards a Greener economy. The three major pillars of life sustenance are social,
environmental, and economic sustainability, as discussed in Chap. 10. Striking
a balance between them needs a high level of entrepreneurial spirit. The first
attempt to define a Green entrepreneur is evident in literature of the 1990s. Berle
(1993) features the term “Green entrepreneurship” for the first time in The Green
Entrepreneur: Business Opportunities That Can Save the Earth and Make You
Money (Hall and Rosenberg 2010). Berle provides a short and precise definition,
“Green entrepreneurship is taking responsibility to create the world we dream
of.” Farinelli et al. (2011) argue that a proper understanding and definition of
