large quantities of the sludge that is usually present in the wastewater. An
example is the Emefcy Company in Israel that reduces the proportion of
sludge by 80% in its processes, thus saving them money and time (Jadhav
et al. 2018).
In 2017, two organizations partnered to establish Fluence Corporation to
become the dominant provider of treatment solutions. Fluence offers local
and sustainable treatment solutions for community and business empowerment. Fluence provides a combined range of services across the water
cycle. It has its major operations in South America, North America, Europe,
and the Middle East (Sevda et al. 2018). Its core objective going forward
is to expand the vast Chinese market for wastewater treatment in rural
areas.
Another organization takes the microbial fuel cell importance for wastewater
a step further through the production of essential hydrocarbons. Ecovolt, a
flagship product of Cambrian Innovation, uses an MFC for the conversion of
carbon-rich wastewater streams. It has been necessary for the production and
provision of clean energy as well as heat.
