It is not only the top grading Xia Bu has charm. Since the Xia Bu is made with hands,
the production can be done anywhere in ramie villages, without big investments.
A small workshop is easy to set up. The middle-grading and low-grading Xia Bu
fabrics can be used in making products by any one who is interested in crafts. Local
government supports small business to provide services for the local people. Here is
one example.
14 Mama Making Project in Rong Chang Village
“Mama Making” is a charity poverty alleviation project set up by the China Women’s
Development Foundation to train unemployed women in handicraft skills and provide
them income through their own hands. Local governments and companies build
platforms for mothers to make and sell traditional Xia Bu handicraft products through
different kinds of training activities.
