Abstract
The report consists of a detailed analysis aimed at estimating the contamination by certain
heavy metals in the flesh of a farmed fish: the case of the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)
raised in the Chlef region. The quantification of heavy metals was performed using atomic
absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The results of this study reveal concerning levels of
copper and lead in this fish according to AFNOR standards, thus highlighting the urgency for
corrective actions to preserve public health and mitigate marine pollution in the Chlef region,
and more broadly in Algeria.
Key words: marine pollution, heavy metals, gilthead sea bream, the Ténès aquaculture
farm, toxicity.
