called an onset strain. After the onset strain, the crystallization proceeded and its rate
seemed to be dependent on the network chain density; the higher the density, the
higher the rate. The highest strain data are just before the breakdown (a little smaller
than the tensile failure point). The CI and OAI changes at the contractile curve are
not shown in the figure, but both decreased and returned to zero values.
These findings are rationally explained by the following scenario by using Fig. 8.5,
which schematically shows the progress of template crystallization in NR vulcanizate
upon stretching [1, 39, 40, 64, 70–73]. The rubber specimens used here were of ring
